Kids Shoes: Kids Shoes – What to Look For In Them

Kids’ feet are still developing, so they need shoes to promote healthy foot development. Kids’ shoes should be shaped to mimic the shape of a child’s foot and include plenty of growing room.

Shop with your child for kids shoes clearance sale and check the fit regularly. If a shoe feels tight, it may restrict natural foot movement and lead to blisters.

Upper

kids shoesThe upper of a kids shoe is the part that covers the front and sides of the foot, protecting the feet while they are in motion. It should be soft and flexible and ideally have a cushioning non-slip sole, which decreases forces through the foot, leg and spine.

The shoe should fit snugly and securely on the child’s foot. It is a good idea to check the shoe length with a child wearing them, but also by taking them off and measuring the foot against the insole of the shoes. There should be about a thumb width of space up front to allow growth, movement and comfort.

Kids’ sizes are usually based on age range – infant, toddler, Little Kid and Big Kid. Infant shoes have very soft, padded soles and are designed to allow children to take their first steps without much interference from the shoes. Toddler shoes are slightly larger with a more padded, sturdy sole for kids already walking.

Ask your child to walk around in the shoes and watch them closely. If they are not walking naturally, their feet feel uncomfortable, or if the shoes slip at the heel, they indicate that the shoes are too small. It is best to try on a new pair of shoes and measure again.

Insole

The insole is the part of the shoe that rests on your child’s feet. It should be shaped and designed to support the foot as it moves, allowing for proper arch development. Wear should also be comfortable and provide adequate cushioning for long periods. So, be sure to factor that in when looking for kids shoes clearance sale.

Most shoes come with a flat factory insole, providing little support. Adding an after-factory insole can help with this, especially if your child has a flat or high-arched foot. The insole can be easily removed and replaced, so switching them out is easy if needed.

HEEL CRADLE

Our kids insoles have a deep U-shaped heel cradle that increases stability and comfort and helps correct walking patterns. It reduces and relieves common foot problems, including flat feet, overpronation, shin splints and plantar fasciitis.

AIR

Our insoles are designed to be breathable, which will keep your child’s feet cool and dry during use. They also absorb shock, which can reduce foot fatigue and stress. They are also odour-resistant and antibacterial, which means they can be worn for longer periods without worrying about sweating or odours.

Outer Sole

The outer sole of a shoe provides traction, cushioning and flexibility. It also helps support the feet by directing the body’s weight forward onto the heels and toes. Shoes made for kids should consider width and length measurements to provide a comfortable fit.

When looking for kids shoes clearance sale, be sure to have your child try them on and walk in them. Measuring them in the afternoon is best as feet naturally swell during the day.

Look for a leather outer sole that is durable yet soft and flexible. The shoe should also be sturdy, offering sensory feedback without crumpling or collapsing when your child walks. Look for a shoe that is machine washable as well to cut down on stinky feet. Our favourite brands for kids’ shoes include Momobaby, Pediped and Stride Rite. They all offer various styles and sizes designed with your children’s needs in mind. Whether you want a lightweight, breathable sneaker or a cozy winter boot, they have it all!
